Movie buffs settled in for the most anticipated event of the year, the 92nd Academy Awards, which premiered on February 9th, 2020. Of all the speeches of the night, Joon-ho certainly stole the evening with his acceptance speech for Best Director. After thanking Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese, he goes on to again show how wholesome and funny he truly is.
His translator hilariously relayed to the audience Joon-ho’s wishes to saw the golden statue into 5 parts, so he could share it with everyone. Both funny and totally sweet, this man’s humility and personality certainly shone through during this well-deserved speech.
The Best Picture Reveal
This Korean film was up against some incredibly tough competition for Best Picture. This category was one of the closest it has ever been, and any of the nominated films could have taken home the Oscar. But Parasite was clearly the film that deserved the award the most.
To everyone’s mutual surprise and delight, Joon-ho and Miky Lee, producers of the film, took home the win for Best Picture. This moment had everyone crying and cheering, and it was a win that made Oscar history.
