One of the most popular heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Thor , played by Chris Hemsworth, one of the original Avengers. While the God of Thunder is a force to be reckoned with, without a doubt, this hero comes with quite a lot of humor. Given the success of his franchise as well as Thor’s appearances in the Avengers movies, there’s a massive fandom all around the world that is in love with him. But with the Internet being what it is, there is an endless amount of memes, GIFs and fan art to enjoy with Thor. If you aren’t careful, you might get stuck to your phone just watching all the funny things that are out there from fellow Thor and Marvel fans.
As Thor has been part of the MCU since Phase 1, there are so many moments to choose from that fans have turned into memes. Some are inspired by Thor’s behavior, humor, or just general vibe from the several films he has been in. Having said all of that, here are ten of the funniest memes about Thor.
10. Before and After Endgame
It is obvious how Avengers: Endgame was highly anticipated by the world after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. When Thanos (Josh Brolin) snapped, it felt like an eternity waiting for the arrival of the fourth Avengers installment. However, it’s not a surprise that audience members probably walked into the film with one mood and came out with a completely different one. After all, that film was three hours long which is a lot to take in. This meme pretty much sums up how most audience members felt before and after seeing the film. Even if they loved it, it was still a movie that would be talked about forever.
9. An Accurate DC/Marvel Crossover
While Marvel has Thor as one of its godly superheroes, DC Comics has Superman that pretty much is a God in many regards. They both come from different worlds and have powers only humans could dream of. Even though the MCU and the DC films have (and probably never will) not crossed over, there is an incredibly funny connection that many may not have picked up. Both of these godlike heroes have both had someone named Bruce wipe the floor with them. Maybe the crossover we actually need to see is a Hulk vs Batman with Thor and Superman chilling in the background?
8. Same Vibe
Do the Marvel films and the Shrek franchise have anything in common? Not really. There is no reason why they would have anything in terms of similarity. Or is there? The Hulk and Thor may not exactly have the traits of these Shrek characters, but whoever put this meme together definitely got the point: different characters, but the same vibe.
7. Thor Created The Flash
Given that Thor is the God of Thunder, there are no limits to what he can do with his powers. If Thor: Ragnarok is any indication, anything is possible. Imagine his powers were so powerful that it could actually cause the birth of another superhero in a different comic book universe? People who follow The Flash TV show will remember the conversation between Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) in the pilot. After the Scarlet Speedster woke up from his nine-month coma, he ends up going to Oliver for some heroic guidance. During their conversation, Oliver speculates that perhaps he wasn’t randomly struck by lightning, but that the lightning “chose” him. We could totally believe that Thor was responsible for it in a different life as this meme suggests it.
6. Harsh Truth
While the Thor films always depicted our hero as incredibly powerful, he had his fair share of moments when he would be vulnerable. Whether it is from an emotional standpoint or Thor being hurt, he definitely got knocked down a few times. However, there is one major instance where he physically shouldn’t be affected by it. If you are the God of Thunder, wouldn’t it make more sense for Thor to not be defeated by electricity? Shouldn’t Thor able to use his powers to use anything electric in his favor?
5. Thor’s Actual Whereabouts in Civil War
One of the biggest chapters in Phase 3 of the MCU was the third Captain America installment Captain America: Civil War. With the Avengers getting divided into two sides, there was a hero or two that was missing from the film. Thor was one of them as the Asgardian never participated in the debate. While he probably had important things to take care of, we wouldn’t be shocked if Thor actually witnessed what was going on as this meme suggests it. It wouldn’t be a surprise to find out that while the heroes were busy fighting each other, Thor was simply enjoying the drama from a distance.
4. Asgardian Vs Comedy
For more of the appearances that we have gotten from Thor, he has mostly been one of the more serious heroes. However, he got to play around more with comedy in Ragnarok which we all enjoyed. Needless to say, it isn’t always easy for someone to be instantly funny. In the case of Thor, or at least how he was earlier in the MCU, we could totally see him stretch really far to make a joke. A wordplay of Loki’s (Tom Hiddleston) name is something that Thor would easily think of as hilarious.
3. Bad Predictor
While Thor has his many good sides, he definitely has his misses. For whatever reason, Thor was always incredibly certain of himself and what he stated in various scenarios. From him not believing to be as strong as his father, none of the Avengers being worthy of Mjolnir, or the mind-stone being safe with the Vision (Paul Bettany.) This meme perfectly captures the times when he would be proven wrong more than once.
2. Asgardian Logic
The third Thor film was a major deal for the franchise and an imperative chapter in the MCU as a whole. With Hela (Cate Blanchett) unleashed from her prison, she went after Asgard and caused a major disaster. Despite her attempt at ruling Asgard, Surtur eventually destroys the realm. However, this meme paints Thor as trying to outthink his half-sister. The idea that he would somehow think it would be a wise idea to get rid of Asgard just so she can’t rule is a very dark, but still somewhat hilarious version of our hero.
1. The Mjolnir Plothole
The second installment in Thor’s franchise, Thor: The Dark World, was a mixed bag for the audience. Many consider it as the weakest one out of the three films about the God of Thunder. Whether or not it is a good film is up for debate. However, one of the weirdest moments in the film involves Mjolnir. Just as this meme points out, it’s one of the heaviest things in existence. But yet there is a moment where Thor, somehow, manages to hang it on a coat rack. How did that rack not break like a Kit-Kat when Thor did that? Is that rack simply that worthy to be able to hold it?
