Billionaire Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) doubles as hero, Iron Man. Beneath the suit, in his own words, he’s also a genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist. He’s got a lot going for him. In many ways, he’s the untraditional hero. Everyone is aware of who Iron Man truly is, and in Iron Man 3, Stark abrasively gave the villains his home address, pretty much daring them to try an attack.
Those of us who have seen the film know how that turns out for him. Despite his flaws, Stark is also one of the best comedians of the Marvel franchise with plenty of witty one-liners and sarcastic charm. Audiences have taken to his personality and created suitable memes; here are 10 of which that would make Tony Stark himself laugh!
Friday…Sunday Morning
You feel you’re ready for one Hell of a weekend. You walk into Friday with all the determination and glamour…and when Sunday morning comes along, you feel like you’ve been hit by a bus and a half. Whatever happened to Saturday?
That’s why this meme is perfect for party playboy Tony Stark; he’s no doubt endured plenty of weekends like this one and has no idea what occurred over most of it. Then again, there are certainly some weekends he probably wouldn’t want to remember, either, considering his impulsive tendencies. We can certainly relate to Tony Stark on this matter.
You Know You Are Screwed When…
This is the greatest form of ironic karma. Tony Stark is nearly killed by his own missile. This meme is accurate; the look on Tony’s face says it all. The thing is, this leads to Iron Man’s creation and Tony Stark’s personal redemption. Had this poetic justice not happened, Iron Man and The Avengers as we know it would not exist. Still, this was a really, really bad day in Tony’s life, especially since it led to his capture. You think you’re having a rough day? Try getting blown up by your own missile.
“Tony” Spelled Backwards Is “Y Not”
Like the meme says, this is Tony’s personality in a nutshell. He’s impulsive, he goes after what he wants, and he doesn’t apologize for it. He doesn’t second-guess himself and he has a tendency to take on a shoot first, ask-questions-later type of approach.
We’ve seen Tony’s approach clash with Steve Rogers’, aka Captain America’s (Chris Evans), approach in the past. After all, it was prominently displayed in Captain America: Civil War. Then again, Tony wouldn’t be Tony if he didn’t reflect his “Why not?” attitude.
After Taking Eight Midterms In One Day…
We’ve all been there. Too much homework, and then too much studying, and then far too many tests in one day. Really, it should be outlawed. Tony’s reflection of that in this particular meme may be a bit excessive, but us students tend to have a dramatic flair when it comes to work overload.
Perhaps we can relate to Tony on some level in this photo, lying on the ground, missile fragments embedded in his body, about to be captured by insurgents. Or we can just fall back on the bed and take a similar position and pretend like we understand. Yeah, it’ll likely be the latter.
In The Fourth Grade…
One of the most significant aspects of Tony’s life and his personality is his incredible genius. Tony is not modest when it comes to his intellectual abilities and he flaunts his creations and inventions. He’s always upgrading the Iron Man suit and updating technology, not to mention he’s got Jarvis. He even designed Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) suit with hilarious versions of training wheels for the new hero.
In any case, it’s not inconceivable that in the fourth grade Tony could have created a little robot within a few hours and named it “Optimus Prime.” For the great Tony Stark, that’s a project to conduct when he’s bored and that’s a piece of cake (for him, anyway).
Lazy Tony Stark…Pokes Hulk With a Stick
While a renowned genius, Tony does have the tendency to act lazy or childish, as is evident by Tony’s incessant need to get Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) to “Hulk out.” Despite threatening the safety of everyone on-board the ship, Tony pokes Banner anyway and is impressed that Banner remains unaffected by the instigation.
Whatever secret Banner has to keeping his other side under control is clearly Tony-Stark-proof, much to Tony’s disappointment. No worries, though: Tony does get to see Bruce “Hulk out” plenty of times afterwards.
Tony Stark Wants Shwarma…
Isn’t it crazy how something catches on and everyone suddenly has a dire need to do the same thing as the characters from a film or show? Do we even know what shwarma is?
This unusual choice of a running gag from The Avengers seems to have prompted the need for the movie-viewing audience to try this mysterious food, thanks to Tony Stark’s suggestion. At the very end of the film, Stark and the Avengers take a much-needed break to eat shwarma in silence together. Perhaps shwarma can be likened to every woman’s need in the ’90s to wear “the Rachel” hairdo. You never know what will catch on.
When Aunt May and Tony…Are Getting a Bit Too Close
Considering the fact that Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. dated back in the day in real life, it makes this meme all the more hilarious. Peter (Tom Holland) may have liked the idea, or maybe not.
Either way, it would be funny to see Peter activate his “enhanced combat mode”, or “instant kill”, to break up his aunt and Tony Stark, even though Tony would probably just shut down Peter’s suit in retaliation. The attempt would be hilarious in itself, at least.
They Cut Down My Super Bowl Trailer to 30 Seconds…
If anyone has the ability to do this, it’s Tony. Don’t think he’d let anyone get away with cutting time off his trailer, or his time off of anything, for that matter. Tony loves attention and the spotlight; he’s more than comfortable in it. After all, he is the untraditional hero: everyone knows his alter-ego, and in the third installment of the Iron Man trilogy, Tony arrogantly gives the enemy his home address.
That’s either really stupid or incredibly brave, and we know how it turned out for him. In any case, don’t cut Tony Stark off short or he may just retaliate in a most unpleasant manner. There goes Super Bowl Sunday.
Trying to Have a Party Without Me? Traditionally Not Cool.
If anyone is the life of the party, it’s Tony Stark. The man can party, hold his liquor, entertain his guests and DJ like nobody else. A party without Tony Stark involved isn’t truly a party. Though Tony’s days of partying are fewer than they used to be, he’s still able to go back to his party-boy roots and fall back into his own groove. If there’s a party in town and Tony’s not invited, you can bet he’d be offended. Though he might take pity and crash it to make it livelier. Even better? He may show up in the Iron Man suit.
It’s obvious Tony Stark has made his impact on society and pop culture (and memes) for years to come. Witty humor, sarcasm, a penchant for classic rock, cool gadgets, revamped technology, the various Iron Man suits, several action sequences and his relationships with Pepper, Rhodey and the other Avengers always keeps us entertained. Tony provides much of the humor in the Marvel Universe and as evidenced by the memes above, he’ll keep us entertained for years to come.
