There has been a lot of controversy circling the recently debuted self-titled Joker film. The story stars Joaquin Phoenix and is an origin tale of a man called Arthur Fleck, who eventually turns into Gotham City’s most famous villain. Despite the differing opinions of this tale, it seems to be doing well, almost hitting the $1 billion mark at the box office.

Even before the film hit theaters on October 4th, 2019, cosplayers around the world have been quick to replicate the new Joker facade. Even females have taken on the part, bringing the typical genderbend concept full force. Heath Ledger and Jared Leto’s Joker have both been equally represented in the cosplay community by both males and females, but this time, we decided to show you ten genderbent Joker cosplays from the new film that you many have never seen until now.

Natile Cosplay

Natalie Cosplay seems to appreciate the Joker’s latest outfit and put the details together down to a T. Sometimes genderbent cosplays can take on an altered uniform for the sake of creativity, but Natalie aimed for screen accuracy. She kept the sharp red suit, the face paint, and the green-collared shirt. The hair looks identical, if not a little more put together, and the only part of her cosplay that is partially effeminate is the green underbust corset and the snazzy heels.

Natalie is a 24-year-old cosplayer and photographer who believes, “If you’re passionate about something, it’s probably the right thing to care about.” Her Harley Quinn and Batgirl cosplays are equally as impressive.

Ammany Exchange

Sometimes cosplay is more than just putting together a costume. The ones who are best at it can elicit the persona of the character they’re dressed as. Ammany Exchange not only paired the red blazer and the green hair with precision, but she effortlessly gives off major Joker vibes (complete with the cigarette and a cheeky caption).

Ammany is a tattoo artist and cosplayer. You can see her cosplays of Pennywise, Iron Spider, and Mia Wallace (Pulp Fiction) on her cleverly named Instagram account.

Maru Lady J

If you were waiting for a cosplayer to pull off a Joker on par with Phoenix, take a look at Maru Lady J. Her Joker suit is as radiant and colorful, as if she just jumped straight out of a comic. Her whole demeanor shouts that she is a force to be reckoned with, making her apt to fill the shoes on the Joker.

Maru Lady J is a Japanese cosplayer who’s love for the Joker is prominent. You can see variations of this character on her cosplay account alongside other DC villain cosplayers.

Tikkikikki

This 21-year-old cosplayer from Germany definitely does the Red Hood justice. The color of her attire is slightly off from the movie version, but it actually gives the character a more realistic feel.

Besides that, Tikkikikki (as she is dubbed on Instagram), also somehow manages to have flawless makeup and styles her hair to match the new front. She even made fake cigarettes for the photoshoot because cosplayers are nothing if not committed. From Princess Peach and Elsa to Lady Thor and a Halo marine, this girl definitely has an impressive cosplay portfolio.

Kiimmiii

This cosplay is a bit old school Joker meets 2019 Arthur Fleck. You can never go wrong with the traditional green hair and purple blazer, and this gal decided to throw in an orange corset for good measure (also very Batman 1989 Joker).

What sets this cosplayer apart from the pack is her incredible and detailed makeup skills. Besides this disturbingly gorgeous makeup, she’s also shown her talents by way of Chucky, Pennywise, and Freddy Krueger compositions.

Kairi May

Another cosplayer who is apt at fulfilling the embodiment of Gotham’s anarchist. Kairi May admitted that Joker is one character that has her stepping out of her comfort zone, but it’s clear that her cosplay is both beautiful and accurate.

Kairi also debuted a stunning Jessica Rabbit cosplay at MCM in London this year alongside her genderbent Joker. You can see her gearing up as casual Disney princesses and cartoons such as Wendy Corduroy from Gravity Falls on her Instagram profile.

The Coffin Queens

This female Joker is done with expertise. The Coffin Queens is a group of beautiful and professional cosplayers who have a passion for the strange and creepy. In other words, you’ll mostly find horror or villain-type characters on this page, each one looking more impressive than the last.

With Beetlejuice, The Addams Family, and Pennywise on their docket, the Coffin Queens claim that they are, “Creepy until the grave and cosplaying until we drop dead.”

Captain Melody

In the cosplay world, you can take literally any character and make it your own. And it’s celebrated (most of the time anyway)! That’s why Captain Melody’s chic Joker outfit is one that works. Her cosplay has the aesthetic of Phoenix’s Joker and adds a twist with blue and green hair.

Captain Melody is a cosplayer who wears all kinds of hats. On top of being a casual Joker and Spider-Man cosplayer, Melody is an avid gamer and Monster Energy drink connoisseur.

Tegank

If you aren’t experienced in the art of face paint, it’s crucial to know that this art takes practice. It’s hard to get character makeup like the Joker’s done just right when it involves painting in colors like white, red, and blue. Sometimes the results are streaky, and sometimes the colors don’t line up quite as you would have imagined.

Cosplayer Tegank, however, doesn’t seem to have those problems. Her Joker makeup is done with care and proficiency, leaving little to be desired. The final outcome is a makeup countenance that looks outstanding.

Saint Elena

And finally, we have Saint Elena, who has a reputation for body and facepaint transformations. She gained recognition with her abstract Harley Quinn makeup, but it’s quite clear that her Joker cosplay is just as good.

Elena is a Russian cosplayer who is also a self-taught face and body painter. She has excellent attention to detail, as you can see in the painted Joker blazer. Yes, that’s right… that cosplay top is paint.
