Margot Robbie’s mischievous Harley Quinn is once again kicking-butt on the big screen, but should we expect to see the character and her newly found allies, aka the Birds Of Prey, in any future DC Extended Universe movies? Cathy Yan’s bold and undeniably badass Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) hasn’t proved to be a monumental success at the box-office, nor is it a flop or a total failure. It’s safe to assume that we’ll be seeing one or more of these characters in the future.
Since the film is already filming and shots of Robbie’s Harley have made their way online, we already know that Harley Quinn will make her return in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad next year, but what does Warner Bros. have in store for the character and the Birds Of Prey next? It’s always fun to speculate, so to celebrate Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) and its unique tone, style, and direction, we’ve collected a list of ten sequel or spin-off movies that we expect Warner Bros. to make next!
Cassandra Cain Spin-Off Movie
Although she’s seen as a child (with a very different backstory) in Birds Of Prey, Cassandra Cain is one of the most exciting characters in the entire film. She might seem like nothing more than a simple pickpocket, but Cassandra Cain has a major role in the comics as an expert martial artist and eventually becomes Batgirl.
Harley & Batman
This one is a little bit less likely, especially because we have no idea what’s going on with Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s Batman. Still, it’s impossible to deny that seeing Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn team-up with or go head-to-head with Batman would be one of the most satisfying and endlessly enjoyable comic-book movie experiences!
We’ve heard Harley talk a lot about Batsy and even got to see them interact for a few moments in Suicide Squad, but it would be incredible to see an entire film of Harley and Batman working together.
Harley & The Joker Team-Up Film
Jared Leto’s controversial portrayal of The Joker might not have gone down well with most fans and viewers, but there’s still lots to explore with Harley and her Puddin’s relationship! This would give us a better look at Jared Leto’s performance as The Joker and with a new filmmaker leading the way, a film focused entirely on Harley and Mr. J’s relationship could be one of the most entertaining and unique films in the DC Extended Universe.
Huntress Standalone Film
If you look at any of the reviews or fan reactions, you’ll see that Huntress is proving to be a massive highlight for a lot of viewers.
While Birds Of Prey does a good enough job of introducing Huntress and displaying her traumatic backstory, a John Wick style spin-off movie could delve even deeper and explore the character further.
Harley Vs. The Joker
We’ve already discussed how Harley’s relationship with The Joker could make for an interesting standalone film. We’ve also got to consider the exciting possibility of seeing Harley and the Clown Prince of Crime go head-to-head at some point in the DC Extended Universe. Given their relationship status at the end of Birds Of Prey, a film that puts Harley directly against Jared Leto’s Joker could be one of the most exciting and entertaining DC Extended Universe films!
Black Canary Spin-Off Movie
She might not be exactly what comic-book readers expected, but there’s no denying that Jurnee Smollett-Bell is the perfect Black Canary in Birds Of Prey.
While Black Canary is given a considerably large amount of screentime (compared to Huntress), we learn very little about her backstory and the origin of her superpower. Black Canary has an extremely rich comic-book history, particularly with Green Arrow, so it would be endlessly exciting to see her kick even more ass in a future spin-off movie.
Gotham City Sirens
It’s been confirmed that Margot Robbie was considering a Gotham City Sirens film at one point, so we can only assume that this is something Warner Bros. and DC Comics will want to introduce to the DC Extended Universe later down the line. Much like Birds Of Prey, a Gotham City Sirens film would see Harley team-up with some badass women, but instead of Black Canary and Huntress, the Princess of Crime would be fighting alongside her BFF (and occasional GF) Poison Ivy and Catwoman.
Birds Of Prey 2
Birds Of Prey might not be the massive success Warner Bros. and DC Comics were hoping for, but the film is still earning a decent amount worldwide. This gives us hope that we’ll see Black Canary, Renee Montoya, and Huntress team-up for another badass adventure in the DC Extended Universe.
A sequel, which would most likely focus more on the Birds Of Prey and less on Harley Quinn, could aim for a PG-13 rating while still delving deeper into the Gotham underground and exploring these characters further.
Harley & Poison Ivy Team-Up Movie
Looking at the cast interviews and fan questions, it’s extremely clear that the audience is more than a little bit excited to see Harley team-up with her best friend/girlfriend/partner in crime, Poison Ivy. Harley and Ivy’s relationship is one of the most entertaining in recent DC Comics history, so to say that we’re excited by the possibility of watching the pair team-up on the big screen is a massive understatement. This would give viewers the chance to see Harley in a completely different light, and it’s fair to say that fans are still waiting to see Ivy portrayed accurately after Batman And Robin.
Standalone Harley Quinn Movie
Looking at the critical and audience response to Birds Of Prey, it’s very clear that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is still very much a major draw for DC Comics fans and the general audience. Looking to Harley’s future in the DC Extended Universe, one film we can and should expect to see is a standalone Harley Quinn adventure. Instead of setting-up multiple characters or centering around a team, this would focus solely on Harley Quinn and give Margot Robbie an even better opportunity to explore the character.
