Game of Thrones season eight has finally started, and there were a lot of exciting moments for fans in the premiere episode. While this first episode was mostly just setting up reunions and information for the coming season, there were a lot of exciting moments that had fans cheering and looking forward to what’s coming next. The women of Game of Thrones are some of the biggest and main players this season with many women vying for the Iron Throne.

As such, we’ve put together a list of 10 of the best women of Game of Thrones moments from the premiere of season eight.

CERSEI MANIPULATING MEN TO HER ADVANTAGE

Cersei is always manipulating people and always has her best interests at heart. While her sleeping with Euron Greyjoy and letting him treat her like he owned her was pretty gross, we all know that Cersei always has a reason for why she does things. We can bet that Cersei made this movie strategically and that more will be revealed about why she did so in the coming episodes. You can never count Cersei out.

WHEN DAENERYS EXPLAINED WHAT DRAGONS EAT

The rivalry between Daenerys and Sansa might seem a little bit too typical, but it makes sense given how much Sansa has worked to get where she is and protect Winterfell. Plus, their dislike of each other, especially Sansa’s dislike of Dany, lead to some pretty funny moments.

When Sansa asks how they are going to feed the dragons and what they eat, Daenerys replied by saying, “Whatever they want.” Daenerys is definitely a badass mother of Dragons. At the same time, Sansa’s concern about provisions makes a lot of sense.

ARYA BEING A BADASS AS USUAL

Arya has always been a badass even since season one, but she has come so far since then. Arya is a stone-cold badass now, and she’s not somebody you want to mess with. Seeing her reunion with Jon Snow was a satisfying moment. Also, while we don’t know what the weapon is yet, it’s clear that Arya has plans for a new weapon better than Needle. It’s about time that she has a new weapon to reflect her journey. Hopefully, the full weapon itself will be revealed soon.

YARA GREYJOY BEING BACK IN ACTION

Yara Greyjoy was left as a prisoner after last season because of Euron Greyjoy, but in the season eight premiere, she is rescued by her brother Theon.

While we didn’t get to see too much of her in this episode, it’s good to see that she is still a player in this game. As a strong woman, and one of the only real queer woman on the show, it’s relieving to see her back in action.

WHEN LADY MORMONT SHADED JON SNOW

Lady Mormont is a side character, but she has always been one of the most non-nonsense, feminist characters on the show. Even though she is basically a child, she can go toe to toe with all of the other lords and ladies or the North.

She was not pleased with Jon Snow returning to Winterfell with Daenerys after bending the knee. She threw this shade at Jon Snow and gave him a withering glare to boot. Lady Mormont is not afraid to speak her mind, and she voiced what many other people of the North were thinking at that moment.

WHEN SANSA TOLD TYRION HE WAS RIDICULOUS TO TRUST CERSEI

Sansa has become one of the most worldly wise and perceptive characters on the show. What she has been through has turned her somewhat cynical, but this is a trait that she needs to have in the world she lives in. When she and Tyrion see each other again and talk about Cersei, Sansa tells Tyrion that he is stupid to trust that Cersei will actually lend aid to the fight against the White Walkers. She tells him, “I used to think you were the cleverest man alive.” Sansa doesn’t suffer fools.

ARYA STICKING UP FOR HER SISTER

While last season it seemed like Arya and Sansa were at odds, the truth was they were doing it all as an act to get to Littlefinger. Their sisterly bond has grown even stronger in season eight.

When Jon Snow says that Sansa thinks she’s smarter than everyone, Arya comes to her defense saying, “she’s the smartest person I’ve ever met.” Clearly, Jon doesn’t realize the strength and intelligence that Sansa has gained over the years, but Arya knows and won’t listen to her sister be put down, even by their brother.

DAENERYS SHOWING HOW PROFICIENT SHE IS AT RIDING DRAGONS

While there was a lot of excitement on the internet about Jon Snow riding a dragon for the first time, and understandably so, this moment also reinforced how great Dany is. She shows how she is an expert at riding dragons now and is a little snarky about Jon’s apprehension about how to ride a dragon. This moment was funny as well as endearing and also reminds us how much of a badass Daenerys is.

“FIRST, I ROBBED YOU.”

The first episode of season eight was full of reunions, and it’s rewarding to finally see so many characters in the same place together. When Arya and the Hound see each other again, the Hound accuses her of leaving him to die. Arya’s savage reply is, “first, I robbed you.” It’s clear that Arya is a fierce person, and the Hound respects this. The moment was pretty hilarious and also reminds us that Arya takes no prisoners.

SANSA CALLING JON SNOW OUT ON HIS LOVE LIFE

Sansa can see things about Daenerys that Jon Snow can’t. While Jon Snow’s decision to bend the knee makes sense as it’s necessary to give them a chance again the White Walkers, Sansa is less idealistic and naive than Jon is. She understands that getting the North to cooperate now will be harder. She calls Jon Snow out asking him, “did you bend the knee to save the North, or because you love her?” Clearly, there is a lot of truth in this question that Jon Snow doesn’t want to admit to.
