Following the success of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa brought another Archie Comics world to life on Netflix with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Similar to Riverdale, the series gives the world a dark spin, following teenage witch Sabrina Spellman as she navigates her life as a half witch-half mortal. With experiences in two worlds, Sabrina balances human struggles with supernatural ones. A different tone from the nineties sitcom, Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, gives the characters more dramatic flair and surrounds everyone with more significant stakes. Things really kick off when Sabrina decides against signing the Book of the Beast. These are the top ten best episodes, according to IMDb.

CHAPTER SEVEN: FEAST OF FEASTS (8.2)

Sabrina is disgusted to learn about the witch tradition involved in the feast of feasts. To celebrate the witch Freya, who made the ultimate sacrifice for her coven, Father Blackwood brings back the sacrifice that leads one female witch to become the main course for the meal. Not interested in participating in cannibalism, Sabrina decides she wants no part in it. However, when Prudence is elected Queen of the feast, Sabrina encourages her to not go through with it. Proving that the sacrifice was rigged becomes important for Sabrina as well when she discovers that it had not been the Dark Lord’s will that determined the Queen, but that of another witch.

CHAPTER EIGHT: THE BURIAL (8.2)

Following the spells cast by Agatha and Dorcas, Harvey emerged from the collapsed mines, alive, and desperate to find his brother, Tommy. Harvey had barely escaped the tunnels and could not figure out why he had gotten out, attributing his life to Tommy. A funeral is held for Tommy only a few days later without a body as they intend to bury Tommy’s hard hat in his honor. Sabrina can’t watch Harvey go through such a hard time, and takes it upon herself to fix things. Involving Prudence, Nick, Agatha, and Dorcas, Sabrina prepares to cast a necromancy spell to bring Tommy back even after Hilda and Ambrose warned her against it.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN: THE PASSION OF SABRINA SPELLMAN (8.2)

It’s theatre performance time for both mortal and witch schools alike. While Sabrina must tackle Romeo and Juliet with Harvey, she also takes upon the role of Lilith for the Academy of Unseen Arts. However, school is the least of Sabrina’s worries. The Dark Lord has called upon Sabrina to prove her loyalty to him by stealing a pack of gum. Sabrina fights his influence no matter the consequence. Her attempts eventually fail as the Dark Lord goes after her friends, proving that he will not rest until Sabrina has committed herself to him.

CHAPTER NINE: THE RETURNED MAN (8.4)

Sabrina faces the consequences of her actions when Tommy returns, not quite himself. Rather than behaving like his usual self, Tommy acts only in reactions to other people but never speaks or eats. However, Tommy is not the only one facing the aftermath. Agatha is coughing up dirt in response to magic trying to keep the balance. Sabrina is determined to save Tommy as a way to keep Harvey happy, but her attempts fail. Instead, Sabrina realizes she can not continue on her path and tells Harvey the truth. Meanwhile, Roz and Susie discover that Sabrina could be a witch.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN: BLACKWOOD (8.4)

Blackwood’s agenda comes to light when he describes how he would like to see the Church of Night going forward. When Ambrose hears his ideas are misogynistic and regressive, he knows this can not be their future. After learning from the ghost of her father that Blackwood had been behind her parents’ deaths, Sabrina strives to stop the wedding and prevent Blackwood’s plans from coming true. Sabrina, Ambrose, and Nick team up to get Edward’s manifesto to the Antipope and stop Zelda’s marriage to Blackwood. Her plan backfires, and although she interrupts the wedding ceremony, Zelda and Blackwood marry in his office later.

CHAPTER TEN: THE WITCHING HOUR (8.7)

After deciding against completing her Dark Baptism, the rise of thirteen witches changes the game. To protect the mortals of Greendale, Zelda, Hilda, Ambrose, and Sabrina place a protection spell around the high school while Sabrina sends Nick to Harry’s house to watch over him. Meanwhile, Susie and Roz stay with Roz’s grandmother. When Zelda and Ambrose are transported to the Academy of Unseen Arts, Hilda is forced to keep the spell up when Sabrina must sign the Book of the Beast to end the torment on Greendale. The woman masquerading as Mary Wardwell reveals herself to be Lilith, also known as Madame Satan, to the High School principal before killing him.

CHAPTER NINETEEN: THE MANDRAKE (8.8)

After learning of the prophecy stating that Sabrina is to bring about the apocalypse, ending the world as she knows it, she decides to prevent it. By duplicating herself with a mandrake, Sabrina has given her duplicate all of her magic with the intent to kill it, before she can enact the prophecy. Unfortunately, she gets tricked, and as Sabrina and Ambrose run off to try again, the mandrake Sabrina goes around, causing havoc. Making sure to end the tirade before it gets worse, Sabrina kills her duplicate, accidentally causing the prophecy she had been trying to stop.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: THE MIRACLES OF SABRINA SPELLMAN (8.9)

Dying at the arrow of an angel is the catalyst that unleashes a new set of powers Sabrina had not been aware of. On top of killing angels, Sabrina can heal people’s wounds and give Roz her sight back. It all seems to be going well, Sabrina going as far as to throw a party to show her mortal and witch friends that they can all live amongst each other peacefully. Right as Sabrina is about to fly off the roof, Harvey and Theo interrupt the party with a message of their own. Bringing Sabrina, Roz, and Nick into the mines, Harvey and Theo show the three an image of a girl who appears to be Sabrina.

CHAPTER TWENTY: MEPHISTO WALTZ (8.9)

In the two-part finale, Sabrina, her family, and friends band together to ensure Sabrina’s safety and keep the world from being overtaken by the Dark Lord and his demon army. While Harvey, Roz, and Theo guard the doors to Hell, Sabrina must figure out a way to defeat the Dark Lord. However, “Mephisto Waltz” offers another plot twist: Lucifer is also Sabrina’s father. The new information does not deter Sabrina’s wishes to stop him, and instead, gathers her mortal friends and witch family and friends to help trick the Dark Lord. When there is no other way to be sure of the Dark Lord’s defeat, Nick offers himself as a sacrifice to keep Lucifer within Nick’s body.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: THE MISSIONARIES (9.2)

Expelled from the Academy of Unseen Arts, Sabrina gives mortal school another try. Her interactions with Harvey and Roz are not what she had hoped, especially after learning that Roz has quickly been going blind. Although she offers help, Roz turns her down, stating that witches are evil. It is Theo that puts Harvey and Roz straight, reminding them of the good things Sabrina has done to help them. After an attack, Harvey rushes over to see how Sabrina is, then joins her, Hilda, and Nick to save the witches trapped by witch hunters. A shocking turn of events saw Sabrina rising from the dead after being shot with an arrow by an angel. As she flies above them, Sabrina refers to herself as the “Dark Lord’s sword.”
