There are lots of well-done movies that get released during every decade, and many of them are Christmas films. One of the most memorable holiday films of all time came out in 1946, and that was It’s A Wonderful Life.
That film has actually inspired lots of other movies that came out after it was released. Another really popular holiday movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, which was release during the late 1980s.
Lots of well-done Christmas movies have been released in more recent years as well. Here are some of the most memorable holiday films that were released in the 2010s.
Bad Santa 2
Bad Santa 2 came out 13 years after the first one was released, and although some people did not like it as much as they liked Bad Santa, a lot of the same elements that made the first one popular were still featured in the second movie. That means there is still plenty of material there to make it just as good as the first movie.
Another thing that adds to the quality of the movie are the cast members that were not in the first one, such as Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks. Bad Santa 2 brings fans the classic adult humor they enjoyed in the original movie.
All I Want For Christmas
Sometimes, some of the least popular Christmas movies turn out to be quite interesting, and that is the case for this film, which was released in December of 2013. All I Want For Christmas may not be as famous as some of the other films everyone watches every year, but the story has a lot of charm that makes it worth a watch.
Some of the stars of this movie include Tom Arnold, Brad Rowe, and Melissa Sagemiller. In this film, Sagemiller plays a character named Elizabeth, and she meets one of Santa’s helpers. Then, she is granted a very special wish.
Daddy’s Home 2
Daddy’s Home 2 is the sequel to the 2015 comedy, Daddy’s Home. When a movie has a cast like this one, it is destined to be a hit, whether it is a Christmas film or not. This movie stars Mel Gibson, Mark Wahlberg, John Lithgow, and Linda Cardellini.
Mark and Will play a couple of characters named Brad and Dusty, and Brad is the stepfather of Dusty’s children. They are having a great time together during the holiday season until both of their fathers decide to visit for Christmas, which messes a lot of things up. This movie is a comedy, but there are some touching moments as well.
The Grinch (2018)
Lots of well-received movies came out in 2018, and one of them was The Grinch. It is understandable for one to think that this might be connected to the live-action version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey, but it is not.
This is a cartoon that children are sure to love, and it has a very talented cast as well. The lead star of the movie is Benedict Cumberbatch, since he is the one who provides the voice for the The Grinch. This animated film has a very similar story to the other movies with The Grinch in them, but it also features some original scenes in it.
Krampus
Krampus was released in the 2010s, and it is definitely not much like many other holiday movies. While there is some comedy in film, and it does have a heavy focus on family, this is actually a horror film. It’s about a demon that gets summoned on accident, which leads to him paying a rather unfortunate visit to the main characters when they are celebrating Christmas.
This movie is full of really good writing, even during the scenes that do not involve the eponymous creature. There are also lost of talented actors and actresses in it as well, including Toni Collette and Adam Scott, who play characters named Sarah and Tom respectively.
A Merry Friggin’ Christmas
A Merry Friggin’ Christmas is a 2014 movie that has a lot of humorous moments in it, but this is definitely not a typical holiday film. This movie actually tackles a lot of serious issues, which adds a lot to the story.
In the film, Joel McHale plays Boyd Mitchler, who is a character that does not have a great relationship with his father, who is brilliantly portrayed by Robin Williams. Lauren Graham and Candice Bergen also star in this movie as well. There are lots of emotional scenes in it, so whoever decided to watch it might want to grab a box of tissues first.
The Night Before
The Night Before was released in 2015, and it is a film that has a knack for making viewers laugh during some scenes, and cry during others. Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt play three characters who have been friends for a very long time. The film focuses on them spending an evening in New York City.
They spend some of the movie looking for a place to party and have fun, but there are some parts of The Night Before that are serious. This movie puts a very heavy focus on things that are really important, such as family and friendship.
A Bad Moms Christmas
Some really good movies came out in 2017, and one of them was A Bad Moms Christmas. Lots of movie showcase how chaotic things can get with family members when the holidays are just around the corner, and this is one of those films.
A Bad Moms Christmas features the same three leading characters that made the first movie so funny, but it gets even more interesting when their own mothers are introduced into the story. The original leading ladies from the original film are Mila Kunis, Kristin Bell, and Kathryn Hahn. In this movie, their moms are played by Cheryl Hines, Susan Sarandon, and Christine Baranski.
The Christmas Chronicles
Netflix has a lot of interesting original films on it, and one of those movies is The Christmas Chronicles, which was released on the streaming website in 2018. In the film, Kurt Russell does an outstanding job portraying Santa Claus, and some of the other famous people that are in the film are Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Oliver Hudson.
The movie focuses on two children who are having a tough time after their father passed away. But they have a very fun and interesting encounter with Santa Claus, which helps them get their Christmas spirit back. Some scenes are funny, but this film is a bit on the sad side as well.
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve is a 2015 Christmas movie that has a bit of something in it for everyone. Lots of people who enjoy different genres of movies are likely to have some fun watching this one.
Patrick Stewart and Gary Cole are just a couple of the very talented actors in this film. The stories centers on a bunch of New Yorkers who, unfortunately, find themselves trapped in elevators. What makes it even worse for them is the fact that this takes place on Christmas Eve. This movie makes being in that situation look a lot more interesting than it really is.
