Avengers: Endgame was an emotional movie for fans of the MCU. This movie wrapped up the stories of many of the original six Avengers and was an ending of a story over ten years in the making. While not everyone agrees on the choices that were made in the film, there’s no doubt that Marvel fans have a lot of feelings about this movie.

One character who had a lot of big moments, and who has been a big topic of conversation following the film, is Captain America. This movie wrapped up his story, at least for now, in the MCU. Whether or not you love how his story ended, he definitely had some great moments in the movie. We’ve collected 10 of Captain America’s best scenes from Avengers: Endgame.

 GOING AFTER THANOS

At the start of Endgame, it’s clear that Captain America is committed to going after Thanos and reversing the snap. He is instrumental, along with Captain Marvel, in gathering the team and going after Thanos. When he says, “let’s go get this son of a b****,” it’s clear that Cap isn’t here to mess around.

While the team isn’t able to bring the snapped characters back yet, it was rewarding to see Captain America taking up the mantle again after being nomad in Avengers: Infinity War.

LEADING GROUP THERAPY

One of the things that often make the characters in the MCU so relatable is their complexity and heart. Many of these characters clearly struggle with real issues such as mental health and trauma.

While it might have been nice to see Steve Rogers own issues focused on little more in this film, it makes sense that he would be trying to help other people around him deal with their trauma. Steve Rogers might not always be good at facing his own internal issues, but he does always care about others.

GETTING HIS SHIELD BACK

Captain America dropped his shield at the end of Captain America: Civil War after the fight with Iron Man. While Black Panther and Wakanda supplied him with shields to use in Infinity War, he hasn’t had the iconic shield for years.

Seeing Iron Man give him back the shield was an exciting moment. This was definitely a symbolic deed that signaled that Iron Man and Captain America had forgiven each other for what happened in Civil War and trusted each other once again.

FIGHTING HIS 2012 SELF

One moment that fans couldn’t get enough of was seeing Steve run into the 2012 version of himself. The two Captain America’s get to fight each other, with 2012 Steve doing a better job overall. This whole exchange was funny and exciting, and it’s interesting to see how different and more hardened by the world Steve Rogers has become.

Luckily, future Captain America knows all his own tricks and was able to distract 2012 Steve with a mention of Bucky Barnes. It’s clear that Bucky Barnes will always be one of Steve’s biggest weaknesses.

GOING BACK TO THE 70S WITH IRON MAN

When Iron Man and Ant-Man aren’t able to secure the tesseract, Ironman and Captain America have to improvise. This leads to them going back to the Camp Lehigh army base in the 1970s.

This whole scene is full of a lot of humorous moments, and it’s quite funny to see Captain America come up with a rouse in order to break into Hank Pym’s lab. This scene also gives Steve a chance to reconnect with his past and get a glimpse of Peggy Carter in the past, even if he doesn’t get to interact with her.

FACING THANOS WITH THOR AND IRON MAN

This moment was one that many fans had been looking forward to after getting a glimpse of it in the trailers. Seeing Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America all working together once again was a full circle moment since the first time they all interacted they were fighting each other in The Avengers.

MCU fans have grown to really love these three characters over the past decade, so seeing them work together and be ready to finish Thanos once and for all felt triumphant.

WIELDING MJOLNIR

If there was one moment that made audiences cheer when watching Endgame, it was this one. While it’s now been confirmed that Captain America was able to wield Thor’s hammer all along, he didn’t do so out of respect.

But, in this dire moment in the battle against Thanos, seeing Captain America using both the shield and Mjolnir was epic. Even Thor was clearly thrilled by it.

BEING THE ONLY ONE LEFT STANDING BETWEEN THANOS AND HIS ARMY

Captain America is close to kicking Thanos’ ass using his shield and Thor’s hammer when things take a turn for the worse. There is a moment where Captain America is the one person still standing on the battlefield.

He looks out and sees Thanos and the full might of his army, but he stays standing anyway, willing to fight to the death. This moment exemplifies the core of Captain America and what kind of hero he is, and it was truly powerful.

MOURNING IRON MAN’S DEATH

When Iron Man dies after using the Infinity Gauntlet and saving the world, it’s an emotional moment all around. While Steve doesn’t get to have much of a one on one moment with Tony, it’s clear that he is deeply affected by what he’s seeing, and his tears reflect this. It’s clear that Tony and Steve always respected and cared for one another, even if they sometimes were at odds.

GIVING SAM WILSON THE SHIELD

While the ending of Captain America in Endgame has some fans unhappy, most people can agree that Sam Wilson will make a great Captain America.

Sam Wilson has taken up the shield and Captain America mantle in the comics, too, and seeing him get to have this honor in the MCU was definitely rewarding. He has always been a loyal friend and a hero in his own right, and it will be exciting to see how he carries on the legacy.
